The Awe Factor of God

This video is excellent at portraying two things:

1. It reveals our almost ridiculous insignificance relative to the sheer magnitude of the universe - which is the result of the mere spoken word of God.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)

2. It illustrates the depth of Christ's love for us, to suffer the humiliation of manhood for our salvation, to be repaid with mocking and death.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; (Psalm 103:11)

Quick Thoughts on Free Will

Hearing some of Augustine's biography has led me to reflect on the nature (or illusion) of free will. The Bible really doesn't support the notion but the modern self sufficient westerner holds fast to it. No doubt, the sovereignty of God is mysterious, but this mystery should be reposed in human responsibility vs. God's sovereignty, not human autonomy vs. God's sovereignty. For God's elect, He opens their eyes to His ultimate desirability to the extent that they can long for nothing else as it pales in comparison, thwarting their "free" choice. However this view is often dimmed as we are like children, when offered an apple or a banknote, choosing the apple in our disbelief. For the rest, sin reigns as the ultimate satisfaction - we are slaves to one or the other.
